Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
Reasoning Gym is an offline collection of logic, deduction and maths puzzle games, published by BuildYard, a small independent developer based in South Africa.
The short version
Reasoning Gym does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information about you or your child. Everything the app stores — your nickname, your avatar, your puzzle progress — stays on your own device. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, and no third-party trackers. The app never sends your information anywhere, because it never sends anything anywhere.
The rest of this policy explains that in detail, including the one exception: buying the optional one-time unlock, which is handled entirely by Google Play, not by us.
What the app stores on your device
When you use Reasoning Gym, the app saves the following locally on your device only, in the app's own private storage:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A profile nickname you choose (free text) | So more than one person can use the app on one device and keep separate progress |
| An avatar choice (a number pointing at one of a fixed set of pictures built into the app) | Same as above — there is no photo upload, and no image ever leaves or enters the app |
| Puzzle results (which game, whether you won, difficulty, how long it took, how many hints you used) | To show your progress and to pick puzzles at the right difficulty for you |
| Saved games in progress (the puzzle's random seed and the moves you have made) | So you can close the app and resume where you left off |
| Skill ratings per reasoning area | To adapt puzzle difficulty as you improve |
| App settings (such as which profile is currently active) | So the app behaves the way you left it |
This information is never uploaded, never backed up to our servers (we have none), never sold, and never shared with anyone. We — the developer — cannot see any of it. It exists only on your device.
We recommend using a first name or a made-up nickname rather than a full name, simply as good practice. The nickname is not transmitted anywhere either way.
What the app does not collect
Reasoning Gym does not collect, request, or access any of the following:
- No accounts, sign-ins, email addresses, phone numbers, or passwords
- No location data of any kind
- No contacts, calendar, photos, files, camera, or microphone
- No device identifiers, advertising ID, or persistent hardware identifiers
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or usage-tracking SDKs
- No advertising of any kind, and no ad networks
- No user-generated content, chat, messaging, or social features — there is no way for any user of this app to contact or see any other user
Purchases
Reasoning Gym is free to download and includes several complete games plus daily puzzles at no cost. There is one optional purchase — "Unlock Everything" — a single one-time payment that unlocks the full catalogue permanently. There are no subscriptions and no repeat charges.
That purchase is processed entirely by Google Play's own billing system. Your payment details are handled by Google, never by this app and never by us: we never see, receive, or store your card number, billing address, or Google account details. All the app ever learns is a yes/no answer to "has this Google Play account bought the unlock?" — nothing else.
Google's handling of that transaction is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Play terms of service.
Internet access
Reasoning Gym works fully offline. No code in this app opens a network connection, makes a web request, or sends data anywhere.
The app's Android permission list does include INTERNET and
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. To be completely transparent about why: these are required by
Google's own Play Billing library, which every Android app that offers in-app purchases must include,
and which needs them for its own internal operation. They are not used by this app to collect, send,
or receive any information about you.
Children's privacy
Reasoning Gym is designed to be suitable for children (roughly ages 6 and up) as well as teenagers and adults.
Because the app collects no personal information at all, it collects none from children either. There is no registration, no advertising, no in-app messaging, no external links inside gameplay, and no mechanism by which a child could share information with us or with any other person through this app.
We believe this is consistent with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU GDPR's provisions on children's data, and South Africa's POPIA, since no personal information is collected, used, or disclosed in the first place. The one purchase in the app is a flat one-time price shown up front — there are no loot boxes, no randomised rewards, and no repeat or escalating charges. Purchases are made through Google Play, where parents can require authentication for every purchase in the Google Play Store app's settings.
Keeping and deleting your information
Because nothing is stored anywhere except your own device, you are in complete control of it:
- Deleting the app removes all of its data — profiles, progress, saved games, settings — from your device permanently.
- Android Settings → Apps → Reasoning Gym → Storage → Clear data erases the same information without uninstalling.
There is no server-side copy, no account to close, and no request you need to send us to have your information deleted — but if you have a question about this, you can contact us at the address below.
If you have enabled Android's own Auto Backup feature on your device, Android may include the app's local data in the backup that Android makes to your own Google Drive account. That backup belongs to you, is controlled by your Android and Google account settings, and is not accessible to us.
Security
The app's data is held in Android's private per-app storage, which the operating system isolates from other apps. Since no information is transmitted off the device, there is no transmission to intercept and no database of ours that could be breached.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how information is handled will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
